Weird

Just when you think you've seen it all on your street, something else just comes along to surprise you. We are used to construction and such occurring on Wrightsville Beach with saws and hammers the norm. Lately on my street it has been quite consistent. This home treatment was not one we see often. So, being the photographer I am, I couldn't resist capturing the process.

They have completely shrink wrapped a large home on Access 21!  One of WB's more famous dwellings was found to have some type of "bug" problem, but I was told it was not termites. According to local buzz the little critters may have made their way into the home via a piece of furniture. Clever. Anyway they came yesterday and began to completely seal the home for treatment. It kind of gives you a queasy feeling in your stomach to see these trucks with "danger poison" stamped on their sides pulling onto your street to unleash whatever it is they use to treat the problem. Of course everyone who asked was assured that it was completely "safe" and would not harm man or beast.Hmmm.

If you see anyone holding their breath as they walk to the beach access, they probably didn't believe the generic explanation. Might be a good choice.

Carey and Kevin

This past week end I had the opportunity to share in Carey and Kevins wedding and had a great time shooting the event.

Everyone from Bride and Groom to guests were laid back and just relishing in the day. As you can see, they are a great looking couple and were open to having a fun day. They both had to travel from Texas and endure the stress of possible delays from Hurricane Ike, but everything went smoothly and the weather was cooperative on the day of the wedding. Thanks to Carey and Kevin for letting me be a part of their special day. Don't forget to click on the image for a larger view.

Mid Week

Been so busy trying to catch up that I haven't had much time to blog. I put in a slideshow of some of my images using Show It Web software by .Its a nice program by David Jay that lets you create individual slide shows for your clients. Very cool and easy. I put together a quick show of some of my images.

This week end I am shooting a wedding for Carey and Kevin and I'm really exciting about the setting. Its being held at her parents' home in Wilmington. Its a beautiful country setting with ponds, fields, small bridges. It should lend itself to some great photo opportunities. Carey has been really great to work with and she was fortunate to be able to get out of Austin, Texas and come home to Wilmington and miss Hurricane Ike altogether. The ceremony will take place in a gazebo by the pond. It will be nice and I'm sure a good time will be had by all.

Los Portales

My buddy, Chris Lang, also a photographer, met me at our favorite restaurant for lunch yesterday, Los Portales.

Since Chris moved here from San Diego I will defer to him as somewhat of a Mexican food aficionado, and when his lovely wife Erica is not preparing it at home, he seems hard pressed to find the "real thing" here in Wilmington.

Well,no more.Since he found and turned me on to this place, we create excuses to have lunch together! This place is as authentic as it gets. In fact if your Spanish, like mine, is limited, you have to do a lot of gesturing and hoping to get the point across if you have a menu question. But do not let that deter you from stopping in Los Portales for lunch or dinner. The guys there are friendly and helpful. Located at 912 S. Kerr Avenue in Wilmington, between College and Kerr on Wrightsville Avenue it is a can't miss place for terrific Mexican fare.

Sorry for the lousy photo, but I only had a cell phone at the time. Enjoy

After Hanna in Wrightsville Beach

Well we survived Hanna with what seems to be minimal damage on the island. When she did come it was with heavy wind, but not as much rain as expected. Today was simply beautiful and offshore winds provided some nice surf for those who caught it at the right time.I guess the weather people will all leave and it will be back to normal come tomorrow. Waiting on Hanna Part 2

As we await Hanna here on Wrightsville Beach I thought I'd give you a taste of what we are experiencing. Right now the surf is getting heavier and landfall is anticipated for around late tonight and early Saturday morning. High tide is at 12:30 am, so we'll probably have some overwash on the beach and erosion. Tomorrow it should be out of here and the offshore winds should create some nicely formed big waves for the surfers. We are battened down on Access 21. Looks like it will stay a tropical storm with no catastrophic results. The price you pay to live in what we residents consider paradise!

Waiting on Hanna

As we prepare to see where Hanna is going to land on the Southeast coast, surfers at Wrightsville Beach are taking advantage of the large surf. Since this is the first and hopefully the last possibility of a storm reaching our shores this season there is a concern in the community. You would never know there is a threat as we have beautiful weather with clear, blue skies and low humidity. Ah, Mother Nature!
