Caught Up, Finally! Now ready to enjoy Holiday!

I was in Chapel Hill last week end doing another shoot for CKS Design and did a kitchen in an old home that was being converted back to its original single family use. It was formerly a boarding house and had seen its best days many years ago, but its current owners have been undertaking its renovation. I wish them the best.

The week-end was not entirely all work as we stayed with a very dear friend and had a wonderful dinner party that evening at her fabulous home on the lake. Fresh made lasagna and all its glorious trimmings. It was a nice kick off to all the fine food that lays ahead for the holidays. Those of us fortunate enough to have a roof over our heads and be able to share a meal with loved ones have much to be thankful for.

I finally finished the editing and can now relax and put work down for the rest of this week end and enjoy family members and visits from friends.I hope everyone has a safe and peaceful holiday.

Another Loss of an Older Home

I am sitting in my office watching, and hearing, them tear down my neighbors home. its kind of sad as we have known this house for many, many years and the current owners have struggled with the idea of tearing down in order to build new. Unfortunately, with the zoning and code restrictions which we have on Wrightsville Beach, they had no choice. The plans for the new home are very nice and it will be a style that will look more like the homes of WB past and not something that would appear to be more at home in Ft.Lauderdale.

Its weird how quickly they take down a house. Once the machinery starts its like watching a game of Pac Man in Live View. It only takes a day to erase and scrape years of memories stored in its soul. Thats really the problem with the new construction we see on the beach. With property values what they are, we see these enormous homes being built and every one appears to be the same. No soul or character. Progress has slowly changed the look of Wrightsville Beach and sadly many of the older homes have gone in its path.

Oh well, its hard to keep things in our comfort zones as we know them. I embrace as much as I sometimes loathe the process of progress. We have no choice.

Getting ready today for a commercial shoot. its actually going to be a new home interior. imagine that.

The 27 Club

Wow, I took advantage of the Cucalorus Film Festival and went to see a movie by Erica Denton called The 27 Club

It was really terrific. The 27 Club is what they refer to the musicians who all left this world at the age of 27, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain. All great talents who departed, one way or another, to early. This film is about two best friends and musicians, Tom and Elliott, and Elliots journey across country and the characters who he meets as he deals with his grief.

It was the first Denton film I had the opportunity to see and she definitely lived up to her well deserved accolades as an up and coming film maker.

We are so lucky to have the movie industry play so important a role here in the Port City and Cucalorus is a wonderful by product.

If you get the chance to see The 27 Club, don't hesitate.

Mike and Dana

Just got back from Richmond and the wedding of Mike and Dana Heino. What a great time. Dana is my niece and it was an honor to be asked to document their special day.

It was a beautiful day and the weather could not have been better. I have a lot of editing to do and hope to get started soon. Monday morning came really fast and is always a jolt to get back to the normal day to day activities, especially after such a special week end with friends and family. I wish Mike and Dana all the best.

Cape Fear Kite Festival

It was a glorious day on Wrightsville Beach as the sky was filled with graphic colors and shapes at the North End of the beach.

The Cape Fear Kite Festival  was held this week end and kiters from all over came and showed their kites to the public. The sky was filled with all shapes and sizes and some of the larger kites were just fantastic!

It was a great day to be out in the fresh air and sun, especially for the 2nd day of November! On Saturday it took the kiters some time to get the big kites off the ground because of an unusual lack of wind. But today was a perfect day to fly a kite as nature provided us with one of those days we brag about here on the beach.

The colors were just incredible and the contrast of the kites against the deep blue sky made for some great photo ops. Enjoy.
